What you need to know when applying to Lithuanian Higher Education Institutions if you obtained your upper secondary education abroad
Key Admission Dates for 2026
The general admission process to Lithuanian higher education institutions began on 1 June 2026.
Admission takes place in two stages:

Main admission – applications are accepted until 23 July 2026.

Additional admission – applications are accepted until 7 August 2026 and 17 August 2026.

What Do You Need to Do?
If you obtained your secondary education abroad, you will generally need to complete the following steps:

Submit your application for admission through the LAMA BPO information system.

Obtain an academic recognition decision for your foreign qualification. To do so, you should apply:

to your chosen higher education institution if it is authorised to carry out academic recognition; or
-
to the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC) if your chosen Higher Education Institution is not authorised to perform academic recognition.

Submit your academic recognition decision to LAMA BPO.
When is academic recognition not required?
You do not need to undergo the academic recognition procedure if you hold:
-
a European Baccalaureate Diploma;
-
since 2019, a Latvian qualification Atestāts par vispārējo vidējo izglītību or Diploms par profesionālo vidējo izglītību;
-
since 2019, an Estonian qualification Gümnaasiumi lõputunnistus or Kutsekeskhariduse lõputunnistus.
These qualifications are automatically recognised in Lithuania.
